Your First Step Into Work

Leaving school and looking for your first job, apprenticeship, training opportunity or work experience?

JobsNZ provides a pathway to help you introduce yourself to employers and prepare for entering the workplace.

A short School Leaver questionnaire.

↓

STEP 2 — CREATE YOUR JOBSNZ PROFILE
Tell employers about your skills, interests and what you can offer.

↓

STEP 3 — JOBSNZ WORK ORIENTATION
Learn about starting work, workplace expectations, communication, safety and your employment rights.
Your identity documents stay with you.

JobsNZ does not require you to place passport numbers, driver licence numbers or other sensitive identity credentials in your public worker profile. Employers remain responsible for carrying out appropriate employment and right-to-work checks.

STEP 1 — ABOUT YOU

Tell us a little about where you are starting from.

You do not need previous employment experience. Everyone has a first job.

You could include school subjects, qualifications, sport, kapa haka, cultural activities, leadership, volunteering, community involvement, practical skills, helping whānau, hobbies or responsibilities.

7. What opportunities are you interested in?
